Caboolture Special School Week 10, Term 2, 2025
Principal News
Wow! Term two has flown by and here we are at the holidays again. Term two has been an extremely busy term, with students continuing their learning journeys through the Version 9 curriculum.
Report cards have been sent home yesterday. We have advised families that there is a technical issue for families with Gmail accounts and we hope to be notified of the fix to this soon. Report cards will be resent to these families once this has been fixed.
Our whole school assembly today was incredible. The students have indeed improved in their skills to manage the louder and busier environment.
During this month, we were incredibly grateful to Niagara Therapy for their generous and heartfelt donation to Caboolture Special School. Our L Block sensory room now features a beautifully hand-crafted vibrating therapy train, and our C Block therapy room is home to a luxurious Apollo Cloud Full Body Therapy Recliner – already a favourite among students in both sensory spaces.
We also received two Thermo Cyclo Pada units and two handheld therapy devices, providing valuable sensory support for our students.
Caboolture Special School is honoured to be the 31st school to benefit from this incredible program. Niagara Therapy, with support from community groups like Lions and Rotary, builds and donates therapeutic equipment in fun and engaging forms to special schools across Australia and New Zealand.
A heartfelt thank you to the Niagara team and their volunteers for helping us create a supportive, joyful space for our students.

Thank you to those families who joined us for the community barbeque on Tuesday afternoon. It is always lovely to be able to spend some time mingling with students, staff and community members in a relaxed environment. As you are aware, Sheldon has been on long service leave for the past two weeks. He is looking forward to returning to school on day one next term.
Date claimers: School photo day - Tuesday 29 July
School NAIDOC day - Wednesday 30 July
School sports day - Thursday 14 August

I wish you all a safe and happy holiday break with family and friends. We hope to see you all back next term.
Kind regards

During Term 2, the Prep students have enjoyed taking part in Friday morning sensory play sessions. This time allows students to engage with their peers while exploring a variety of sensory materials such as goop, rice, and shaving cream. Exploring different textures helps promote communication opportunities for students to describe what they see and feel. Sensory play also fosters social skills like sharing and taking turns, encourages trying new experiences, and overall provides an enjoyable and stimulating activity for everyone involved.

It has been a busy term with lots of fun learning and progress happening in all classrooms.
This week every student was able to select two books to take home to share the joy of reading.
We were luckily enough to be selected by the charity "123 Read 2 Me". This charity donates free books to schools so that every child can take home books and share the love of reading.

Thank you so much 123 Read to Me!
If you would like to find out more about the charity, please follow the link below

The students were so excited to see all the books on offer and couldn’t wait to sit and flip through the pages.
It was such a beautiful morning and a reflection how much sharing a story is enjoyed by all students.
Stay safe and have a great break. See you in two weeks ready for more learning!

Celebrating PBL
As Term 2 draws to a close, we are thrilled to reflect on the incredible achievements of our students and the many joyful moments we have shared as a school community.
This term, our students have worked hard to follow our Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) expectations, and we were delighted to hold our very first Gold Star Celebration for 2025. Eight very proud and happy students earned their Gold Award by consistently demonstrating the PBL values throughout the term. They celebrated in style with the PBL team—and a very special visit from Starman, who brought extra smiles and excitement to the day!
To wrap up the semester, we came together for a PBL Disco Celebration. Students had a fantastic time dancing, singing, and enjoying parachute games with their friends. It was a wonderful way to recognise everyone’s hard work and end the term on a high note.
The last fortnight’s PBL focus has been Respect for Others: We keep our body and objects to ourselves. Teachers have been supporting students in learning strategies to help regulate their emotions, including taking breaks, deep breathing, and asking for help when they need it.
Looking ahead to next term, our PBL focus will be Respect for Self: We use equipment safely. This is a great expectation to explore over the holidays. Whether children are playing with toys, using technology, or visiting parks and other exciting holiday destinations, there are lots of opportunities to practise this important expectation.
Thank you to our amazing students, staff, and families for a truly wonderful term. We wish everyone a safe and relaxing holiday break and look forward to more learning and celebrations next term!

Curriculum Corner

As we wrap up Semester One, it’s a great time to reflect on our successes across the school.
We would like to acknowledge and celebrate that together we have successfully completed our first semester using the Australian Curriculum (Version 9). As a teaching team, we have reflected on our practice, deepened our understanding, made adjustments, and identified areas for continued exploration as we move forward on this journey.
Over the past few weeks, teachers have participated in collaborative planning meetings within their sectors to begin preparing for semester two. These professional conversations have focused on subject unit planning, Highly Individualised Curriculum Plan (HICP) skill selection, teaching approaches, and resource development. These discussions highlight the ongoing commitment of our teaching team to delivering a high-quality, engaging, and individualised education for every student in our school.
Student report cards were sent our earlier this week and will look slightly different to reflect the updated curriculum. We look forward to sharing more of our ongoing learning experiences with you all next term.

Until next time,
Jody O'Shea and Laura Baily

Staff Wellbeing Framework – Looking Ahead to Term 3
As Term 2 draws to a close, I want to take a moment to reflect on the importance of wellbeing, self-awareness, and collegial support within our school community. It’s been a rewarding journey so far, and I’m genuinely looking forward to continuing this work with my colleagues as part of the Staff Wellbeing Framework in Term 3.
Wellbeing starts with self-awareness—understanding our own emotional and physical needs, and recognising when to pause, reflect, and recharge. By nurturing our own wellbeing, we’re better equipped to support one another and create a positive, inclusive environment for both staff and students.
Collegial support is at the heart of our wellbeing philosophy. The simple acts of checking in, sharing a moment of laughter, or offering a helping hand go a long way in building trust and resilience. Together, we’re fostering a culture where everyone feels valued and empowered.
As we head into the holidays, I encourage everyone to take time for rest and renewal. Enjoy the break, and I look forward to reconnecting in Term 3 with fresh energy and a shared commitment to wellbeing.

With Gratitude

Chaplaincy News
Hello Everyone!
I thought I would answer the questions: What is a School Chaplain and What Role do they play at Caboolture Special School?
Here at Caboolture Special School, the Chaplain is here to support the wellbeing of students, staff and families through practical care, emotional support, and a listening ear. The chaplain’s role is to care for the whole person - offering a safe place to talk, reflect and find encouragement during the challenges of school life and beyond. By fostering values like kindness, respect and resilience, the chaplain helps create a positive school culture.
The chaplain does not promote any specific religion but instead offers inclusive care that respects individuals’ values and worldviews. Whether someone needs a listening ear, some extra support in their classroom or assistance preparing morning tea for students, the chaplain is here to serve and support the school and its community.
By being present and approachable, I hope, as the chaplain of Caboolture Special School, to contribute to a school culture where everyone feels a sense of belonging and emotional wellbeing.

Until Next Time,
Chappy Krystal
School Chaplain
