Caboolture Special School Week 1, Term 4, 2024
Principal News
Dear Caboolture Special School community members
It's been terrific welcoming students back for Term 4. A highlight already this week has been welcoming a number of teachers from neighbouring schools to our site, sharing our specialised ways of working. Our school's amazing reputation continues to grow.
Student attendance
Currently 84.7%.
2024 AIP School Priorities
Optimising effective communication processes for all learners.
Strengthening Australian Curriculum (AC) implementation, with an increasing focus on numeracy and Respectful Relationships Education (RRE).
Scaling up Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL).
Opportunity - 2025 P&C President
Krista Pettigrew (current P&C President) recently announced that 2024 would be her last year in the role as Caboolture Special School P&C President. Krista is looking forward to increasing her work presence at our school next year as a teacher aide and so presents the opportunity for another school community minded person to step into the P&C President role for 2025.
An expression of interest for the P&C President position will be released in coming weeks. The position is flexible in its nature and can work around an individual's other commitments. The P&C President at our school is aided by school administration support and an enthusiastic band of P&C members and supporters.
It is most fitting that I highlight the amazing commitment, comradery and leadership Krista has displayed in the position of P&C President. On behalf of our school community, a massive thank you.
School Entry Gates - signage and markings
I have approved additional traffic signage and driveway marking within our school to assist with the safe and smooth flow of vehicular traffic. I expect this work to be completed by the start of the 2025 school year.
Day for Daniel – 25/10
Get your red clothing ready for this annual event. Our increasing school focus around Respectful Relationships Education (RRE) complements the important messages reinforced on such acknowledgement days. https://danielmorcombe.com.au/day-for-daniel/
Teacher Day - 25/10
We will particularly acknowledge the valuable work of teachers on this day.
Tuckshop Day 25/10
Once again this term, our good friends at Lee Street State Special School will be preparing some yummy morning tea for our students on this day. Order forms will be shared with families closer to the date. Our school funds this initiative as part of our partnership work with Lee Street State Special School and there is no cost for families.
Term 4 Swimming Lessons
Our students will be offered swimming lessons in Term 4. Notes will be home soon. This is a school funded activity; there is no cost for families. We are working hard to ensure we are providing maximum opportunities for our students while the pool restoration works are underway.
2025 Class Formation - parent and carer information requests
Should parents and carers wish to provide information for the school to consider for their child's 2025 class placement, hard copy forms are available from the front office. Completed forms are due back to the front office on or before 11/10.
School Growth
I am foreseeing an additional 4-5 classes at our school next year. We have been preparing for these additional 2025 classes for some time through human, physical and financial forward planning. It's certainly an exciting time of growth for our school.
School Security
We have made significant improvements with school security over recent years, including increased rigor around the unlocking and locking of boundary gates, high fencing around the total perimeter of school boundary and on site CCTV cameras. The next stage of these security improvements will be a ‘buzz in’ feature being installed on the two pedestrian gates on Torrens Rd, bringing our school more in line with new school builds. Once these new and enhanced security features are installed, this will mean visitors to the school site will need to buzz into the office to enter through these two pedestrian entries. This school security enhancement will be finalised in coming weeks

Curriculum Corner - Engaging with Maths
Across this year teachers have been engaging with Learner First Foundation to learn about ways to engage students in maths. This week we had a visit from Rob and Darren from Learner First Foundation for hands on lesson demonstrations in some of our classes.
This was an amazing experience to be part of, for teachers and students. There was so much laughing and chatter all while learning and engaging in maths with some open-ended problem solving.
The key to the maths lessons was to get students engaging and exploring counting problem solving using their creativity and hands on materials. Not only were students counting but they were ‘defending’ and explaining their ideas through games, drawings and manipulatives.
Rob and Darren complemented our staff and students on their enthusiasm and positive attitude towards maths.
We are looking forward to more fun learning in classes and sharing these ideas cross the school.
Regards,
Katie Rogers
